Show Preparation
I start my show prep when the babies are very young,
just out of the nest, they spend small amounts of time in the show cage once they are in the nappy cage they spend an hour in the show cage.
They are then put in the baby aviary until they go through their first moult and after they have moulted they go back in the show cage for more training.
10 weeks before a show birds are selected, each bird is carefully checked all over for broken feathers etc. I cut one tail feather on each bird and then pull it in 4 days. If any flights are broken they are also pulled.
4 weeks before a show I started spraying , I spray 3 times week times a for first 2 weeks in which they get a very heavy spray, then everyday a light spray until 3 days before a show. A week before the show I start pulling spots finishing off 2 days before the show.
In the warmer months my birds have bath water in their aviaries nearly all the time so it makes show prep much easier.
If needed birds are washed a couple of days before a show and the night before their tail feathers are dipped in to very hot water.
